We think our iHerb customers are awesome and we truly appreciate their support and their patronage, but we also know that they are all real people who are doing their best to live a life of health and wellness. That’s not always an easy task. Given that, we wanted to feature some of them and get their take on the steps they take towards their own well-being and hopefully, iHerb plays a part in that. Perhaps, from their words, you’ll be able to get some inspiration to help you make positive and healthy changes in your life as well. Today, let’s meet Burak from Turkey.
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi, I am Burak from Turkey and I’m a 21 years old student. I’ve been using computers since I was a child and I enjoying spending my time doing coding, gaming and listening to music…But mostly coding I am interested in science, technology, learning new things and especially enjoy experimenting with new math solutions and algorithms.
How did you find out about iHerb?
At the time, people around me were getting influenza, so I decided to do some research about that as well as the common cold. Then I asked myself why is that very tiny viruses account for such trouble and why there is no cure? While reading a Wikipedia page, there was a hypothesis that says there is a connection between Influenza and vitamin D levels where the immunity system is effected when there are low levels of Vitamin D. It seemed logical to me and when I started to read more about Vitamin D, I realized that our body needs essential materials to defend, repair and grow itself, which our daily foods lack . I decided that I should get supplements and looked at Vitamin D prices at local pharmacy websites first. I found some “Now Foods Vitamin D” and when I saw ho expensive they were, I searched for “Now Vitamin D” on Google and iHerb came up in that search.
What about iHerb first appealed to you?
I saw how cheap the supplements were on iHerb and that they had very low international shipping prices. They shipped me my order for a price that was nearly equal to my in-country shipping prices. It was as if I purchased these products from local online pharmacies versus one from the US.
How long have you been in iHerb customer?
From November 12, 2009.
What are your favorite products and why?
Now Foods Vitamin D 5.000 IU is currently my favorite. My mom got influenza and I gave her 15-20 pills of 5000 IU Vitamin D. After several hours, her symptoms began to disappear and she was feeling better. When I also got influenza, too, I took 25-30 pills of Vitamin D pills for a total of 150,00 IU. ( I got this information from wikipedia too) After I supplemented with the Vitamin D, I also felt much better. I found some research where people who took a daily 400 IU of Vitamin D actuallyhad a lower probability of getting influenza than those who didn’t. For me, Vitamin D is a better alternative than getting a flu shot. Also keep note it’s not just influenza related. Vitamin D is an immunomodulator which means that it activates your immune system and keeps your body clean from enemies like cancer and any other unwanted bodies. Also it has effects on slowing the aging and preventing age-related diseases. Now I am taking 5000IU daily on winter, with my mom and planning to take a pill every 3 day on summer season. When I finish these, I am planning to buy 10000IU from Healty Origins, I will give it a try, because Now Foods doesn’t offer 10.000 IU pills yet.
My second favorite product is Now Foods Omega 3, which supports a healthy brain function. Since there’s a lot of research about Omega 3, I won’t discuss it here, but you can get more info at:
My third one is Now Foods Daily Vitamins. From all my research online, Now Foods seems to be the most reliable company, because other companies seem to put more Vitamin E than your body really needs on a daily basis. To much vitamin E may cause more damage than be beneficial. After some research I found 30 IU of vitamin E is enough for daily intake and Now Foods Daily Vitamins has just the right amount of the vitamins you need.
What is your health and wellness philosophy?
I approach these things a little scientifically. Our bodies are perfect machines, but we should take care of it. It is the interface with our mind to world. Also if we don’t take care of our bodies, we will encounter problems now and n the future. Simply, we need our bodyfv but forget about it when we’re feeling healthy, but when we lose health, it’s very problematic to getting it back. So you should educate yourself on how to keep it in good state. And I shared some of my experiences here.
Do you have a favorite mantra or quote that describes how you try to live your life?
I generally tend to keep to myself, but I think a good one to share is “Eat and drink, but avoid excess.”
Do you have any current health goals you’re working toward and what are you doing to reach them or have you actually met one or more and would like to share your success story?
I am taking Now Foods Vitamin D, Omega 3 and Daily Vitamins every day and share them with people near me, like my mother and my grandmother. We get some unexpected benefits from these pills. I was having some issues with my right hand, caused by longtime mouse and computer use, but that went away and so far we haven’t gotten the swine flu yet ( Even if I got it, I will beat it with my secret weapon, Vitamin D! ) We beat regular flu, and common cold with vitamin D. If I had started to taking pills before winter, I might not have gotten sick at all. So current goals are giving my body everything it needs and watching the results.
Are there any health and wellness tips you’d like to share with other iHerb customers?
You can take the pills that I taking, because they can be helpful to anyone and besides, every human body needs this stuff. Keep sreearching and learning new information every day. Don’t believe everything, but don’t disbelieve everything too. You can accomplish this by verifying information from multiple sources if possible. Avoid GMO and unnatural stuff, if possible. Do some sports and take some action and if you’re feeling like your life has nothing going for it, than try to find something useful to do with it. At least enjoy your time with your friends and family. We have limited time on earth and eventually, we’re all going to die. So make it a good experience for you and everybody near you.
