We think our iHerb customers are awesome and we truly appreciate their support and their patronage, but we also know that they are all real people who are doing their best to live a life of health and wellness. That’s not always an easy task. Given that, we wanted to feature some of them and get their take on the steps they take towards their own well-being and hopefully, iHerb plays a part in that. Perhaps, from their words, you’ll be able to get some inspiration to help you make positive and healthy changes in your life as well. Today, let’s meet Jo from Euclid, OH.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I am an avid tree-hugger, health-nut, and perpetual student of holistic medicine and alternative health therapies. After owning my own graphic design and advertising company for 25 years, I realized that I needed a career that better suited my personality and interests so I started a new business that is more in line with the things that are most important to me in life. Since my primary interests revolve around holistic health but I haven’t had time to return to school just yet to totally change careers, I started a venture in soot-free, non-toxic candles (www.naturallygoodscents.com). It began with my desire to burn a healthy candle during meditation (I mean, does it make sense to burn a toxic one?!) and my chance meeting with a chemist who had developed a unique formula that can form a pillar out of vegetable based wax using no petroleum or lead, eliminating the need for a glass container. The venture offers me the opportunity to mix and mingle even more with the natural health community I love and to meet new like-minded friends. My other interests include: organic gardening, study of Sioux-Lakota spirituality and conservational culture, unicycling, volleyball, art, music and humanities.
How did you find out about iHerb?
I believe I found iHerb during a web-search for a particular supplement.
What about iHerb first appealed to you?
My first order came in expediently and correct. (So did the next, and the next and the next…!) I also found everything I needed the first time I ordered, and then watched the selection opportunities grow each time I returned to the web-store. iHerb remains my primary source for nutritional supplements and healthy personal care products. I rave about their service and recommend them to everyone I know because I have not had even one occasion to be anything other than perfectly satisfied and impressed with iHerb!
How long have you been in iHerb customer?
I depend on them so much, it seems like I’ve been an iHerb customer forever! But in reality, it’s only been about 3 or 4 years. It’s hard to fathom just how much this company has grown just in that short amount of time that I’ve become familiar with them. And the most amazing thing is that through all their growth, never once did their service decline.
What are your favorite products and why?
Oh, there are so many, how do I choose?! I take a variety of supplements including the Enzymedica SerraGold and Source Naturals Evening Primrose Oil. I think those are my two favorite right now. I was also very happy to find a full selection of Barlean’s Flax and Omega Oils at a significant savings over my local health food store. As for personal care products, I recently discovered Source Naturals Skin Eternal Cream. I’m addicted. I love how it works, I love how it feels, I even love how it smells. I’m almost out of it and I forgot to order that again too, darn it! That’s ok, I’ll be ordering again soon enough because there are so many things I get from iHerb on a regular basis.
What is your health and wellness philosophy?
Although I was always interested in nutrition and exercise, it wasn’t until I joined the holistic health community that I realized just how little we learn about it via our parents, education and media as we’re growing up vs. just how complex and vital nutrition really is. I have been fortunate to study under many different alternative health specialists who each focus in different areas of holistic health. My philosophy is to never stop learning about wellness. I like to research ancient medicine as well as the new health discoveries and form my own conclusions about what makes sense. I believe that health is about balance. I believe that health is also very dependent on happiness and vice-versa. I avoid refined foods and I try to get as much of my nutrition as possible by eating whole foods. But I am grateful for the availability of quality supplements to complete my nutritional needs with the things that I cannot get in my diet otherwise (due to lack of availability in my geographical area or because they occur in foods I simply cannot seem to acquire a taste for!)
Do you have a favorite mantra or quote that describes how you try to live your life?
“The good news is that the moment you decide that what you know is more important than what you have been taught to believe, you will have shifted gears in your quest for abundance. Success comes from within, not from without”. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads” ~Henry David Thoreau
I’d also like to share my daily prayer: “Mitakuye Oyasin” (Sioux Lakota for “We are all related”). A prayer for unity on Earth, for humans to co-exist in peace and harmony with each other, the animals, plants and every single part of the Universe.
Do you have any current health goals you’re working toward and what are you doing to reach them or have you actually met one or more and would like to share your success story?
I have many health goals. In particular, I would like to find more time for more physical activities and I would like to grow a serious organic garden. Right now, extra workload and traveling with my new business has interfered with both of those goals, but I hope to find the balance soon.
I have also started a book about consumerism and how I believe we can change the nation’s health by changing our buying habits. I hope to get a little more written each week than I have been accomplishing, but I am not worried about it. Creative things unfold in their own time and the journey should never be under-rated or rushed!
Are there any health and wellness tips you’d like to share with other iHerb customers?
I think that nature, education and variety are the keys to healthy living. There are many theories on health, but if we mimic nature and understand what nature intended for us, then we will find good health as a result.
