Everybody knows that building muscle requires regular exercise. While your muscle-building goals might be different than those of others, there are some foods that can benefit everybody looking to add muscle to their frame.
Nuts are high in protein, vitamins and minerals that can help you build muscle and repair damaged tissue after a workout. Choose nuts that aren’t heavily salted and processed. Ideally, you should be buying raw nuts as they have the most nutritional content. Nuts also make a great post-workout snack when your body needs fuel right away.
Eggs are a rich source of protein, which your body needs to build healthy muscle tissue. However, eggs also provide essential A, D and E vitamins. Eggs are particularly important for men looking to build muscle because they can increase testosterone levels via cholesterol.
Beef can be healthy if you choose the right cuts, and the high protein and iron content is easily absorbed by the body. When choosing beef, look for lean cuts like flat iron steaks, boneless round cut and tenderloin. They’re about as lean as you can find while still being packed with protein.
Rich in calcium and protein, yogurt is a low-fat way to build muscle and help you lose fat at the same time. Combine yogurt with healthy fresh fruits like berries and citrus to give you an antioxidant and healthy sugar boost before starting your workout.
5. Wild Salmon
Wild salmon is packed with protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids that may decrease muscle protein breakdown after a particularly intense workout. For many people, that means larger gains in a short period of time. Do look for wild salmon instead of farmed salmon, however, as it’s higher in omega-3 fatty acid content.
